Cigars and the Women who sold them

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Around 1878-1892 or the Early Golden-Age, was a new time in the portrayal of women in advertising premium cigars. In this decade, advertising began featuring ladies of all social classes from the President’s bride to public laundresses and ladies of all levels of accomplishment, from growing gigantic boobs to achieving great inventive accomplishments. There aren’t a lot of of the second, though, as the correct role of women stayed highly limited, in advertising and real life, till the social revolution of the 1960’s. This decade featured more naked, more semi-nude, more provacative and suggestive ladies on premium cigars boxes than at any other time in advertising history. Before the 1880’s, nudes were often allegorical, sex was hardly hinted at, and girls inclined to be demure, reserved, confined to highly outlined roles, either family or the humanities. Cigar box girls were usually formal, static, and revealed in black and white. Against this, ladies of the 1880’s were colourful in color and design, showing sexiness, fortitude, and formerly unseen range of pose, dress, locale, and perspective. They were never absolutely liberated, but they were on their way.

What’s happened to the Jamaican Stogie?

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

I have smoked Macanudo Cigars for years now, and read that they came from Jamaica. That appeared strange becauce I haven’t heard much about Jamaican tobacco. Apparently, Cuban immigrants brought tobacco seeds to Jamaica, as they did every where else they moved to. But due to hurricanes, work issues and war, it has been a difficult road for the Jamaican tobacco plant. Macanudo, which came from Jamaica is now handmade by General Cigar Company, located in Connecticut. They create quality, high end, premium cigars, including Macanudo. They use their own Connecticut shade wrappers, and various tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Africa for the filler and binder. These are my favourite cigars for many reasons, I love the sweet but spicy flavor. They are robust, although not overwhelming. I am able to smoke once a day and be satisfied. There are only a few known Jamaican cigars around nowadays, and they appear tough to come by. If the others taste as well as a Macanudo, I may switch, but for now I’m sticking to what I like.

Saving For your Choice Stogies

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Typically a outstanding premium smoke can be rather dear.  This will make it very difficult to become a true aficionado for the everyday blue-collar worker.  In any case, the standing of being a true connoisseur of fine smokes shouldn’t ever be limited to the higher class.  Briefly nobody should have to miss a great premium cigar. Some prefer Backwoods Cigars, which are not handrolled, but have a terrific flavor.  Fortunately , there are some guidelines to save your cash when aiming to buy fine smokes.  Research and techinque in buying can save you plenty on your favorites.  If you play it intelligently, you can get round the high costs.  Rather than buying one smoke every 2 or 3 weeks, begin by finding the best smoke for you.  Then, save up for a fortnight, or even months if the requirement be.  After you’ve got a considerable amount put back, contact your local smoke shop.  If there isn’t one in your area, try surrounding areas.  Every large town has 1 wonderful smoke shop.  When you have located it, talk to the owner, not the assistant. Tell the owner that you need one or two boxes or even a case of a selected brand and that if they are going to give you a price break, you will make this, and all future purchases, at their shop.  Unless the owner is the cheapest individual in the world, she will go for it.  After you make your purchase, begin saving up again.  You’ll generally notice that you save up enough to make your next purchase before you finish off your current stash.  This could keep you before the game and give you the power to try new smokes.  Save your Change, of course, this sounds daft at first.  However, as it turns out, the majority end up losing more than thirty greenbacks worth of change a month.  Those that don’t lose it just throw it to the side somewhere where it ends up getting lost.  You are able to afford three decent stogies in just change.  Make a deliberate attempt to put the change away in a particular can or jar till the end of the week.  You may be confounded how much you walk off with.  shop around, all too commonly we see that one stunning stogie.  You know the one, the peerlessly wrapped, oily slick, dark chocolate Robusto.  It’s so attractive that we just have to get it on sight.  This is a major no-no.  Take note of the cigar, the brand and the format.  Then, go home and do a Net search and see what you come up with.  Check all the discount online sites.  You are virtually sure to find the one you are looking for at a far less cost.

The best way to find Fake Miami Suites Cigars

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

The number one rule of identifying counterfeit Miami Suites cigars is the longstanding saying “caveat emptor” – buyers beware. Always keep this in mind when you are buying Havanas, even when you are purchasing them overseas in what appears to be a credible tobacconist’s multinational. Many fake Cuban cigars are sold from storefronts in states where they are utterly legal and sometimes without the understanding of the store owner. Remember counterfeiters are driven by profit potential and regardless of where you are in the world the profit on Cuban cigars is always a tempting target for wrongdoers.

Only a Couple Days to the Tobacco Exile

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Well, Saint Louis has chosen a smoking ban for all restaurants and bars, with only a short list exceptions. I’m so done with my human rights vanishing, I’m ill. I can’t apprehend the reason non-smokers have such a assertive personal judgement on what we smokers do. Everyone knows that smoking is harmful, but I made a conscience choice when I took up smoking, observant of the fact it was harmful. Just because non-smokers want me to give it up, won’t mean that it will happen. Smoking in bars has been a privilage, but most restaurants have a approved smoking section. If non-smokers do not want to inhale the smoke, don’t sit in the smoking section, you are not forced to sit in the smoking section. And as far as the workers of these restaurants that say they are distressed by second hand smoke, I don’t believe it. I worked in the hospitality industry for more than 10 years, and I know that almost all of thefellow workers were smokers.  Doing business with people, tends to, compels you to inhale.  And, I have never heard one non-smoking co-worker ever whine about second hand smoke while working in the smoking section. Putting a smoking prohibition in restaurants and bars, ultimately will only save me money, because I won’t dine out after the first of the year.

All I have to have for my Present: Smokes!

Friday, December 18th, 2009

I have concluded this christmas to plead for basic Christmas Gifts that my wife can pick up comfortably for me. My selection, as always, is my adored stogie from cigar-cutters.com. My wife won’t even have to take leave of our condo, she can go online (I have all my favorites sites saved) and enter the order there. As far as anything else, she can head over to the nearest retailer and pick out a gift. She mentions every Christmas that I am the most baffling man to get gifts for. But we have been together for about 15 years! And if she doesn’t understand the things I like by now, I just don’t know. I continuously articulate every December, “I got to have smokes”, I smoke 1 or 2 in a day, and that adds up. I bought a humidor for keeping my smokes, “what’s that for?” my wife inquires. Well my love, it’s to keep my smokes lively. So, if you get me smokes for the holiday I can store them in the humidor for a couple months and get one when I am ready to enjoy one. Although I have to say, I was blessed with luck last year, my wife bought me a lighter that was ingraved with my initials. The prior year, she got me a fishing pole, because I said I would like to go fishing again someday. Well, I went fishing one time after that, but guess what, I still enjoy 1-2 smokes every day. Well what do I want for the holiday this year? I want Stogies, and all else would just be an additional enjoyment.

Cigars: Guide for the typical cigar smoker

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

The simplest method of categorizing cigars is by the method in which they are made. Cigars are either rolled by hand, or manufactured by machines. The newer smoker may be tempted to start by trying those machine made brands sold in Drug Stores, such as Dutch Masters. However, the Novice Smoker should consider spending a few more pennies and moving up to hand rolled cigars, which are sold on the internet or at a local tobacco retailer.

Heavy smokers Vs Connoisseurs
MostIndividual cigar smokers have their own specific tastes, and have their own individual financial constraints. Those who enjoy smoking several cigars per day may need an “everyday” cigar that is less expensive. Therefore, the taste and cost of machine made cigars can be very handsome to some smokers. However, to the new smoker or experienced connoisseurs, the ones who enjoy an occasional cigar as a special treat, the hand rolled cigar is worth every cent.
